Things I have learned on the journey


This is a picture of me, April 17, 2008 after I had been on the 6 weeks program for about 6 weeks. I have lost about 25 pounds.

  • Salt matters.
    All of my life I used salt and lots of it. I used to really love salt. People would say to me, "Salt will make you retain water" I can only tell you my reaction to that statement. When you weight 200+ pounds, retaining water - which might make me 5-10 pounds heavier - Well, my thought was "Who cares." I never said that to anyone but it is what I thought. Then I got Michael's DVD that comes with the 6 week Body Makeover. In it he says "Retaining water, slows down your metabolism." And now, after nearly a year, food with salt on it or even added to it, does not taste good to me. If you had asked me it I thought that was possible a year ago, I would have laughed while I salted my fries and drank my Diet Coke.


  • Water helps.
    I am aware of recent news articles that say otherwise. All I know, that when I do not drink the 100 oz that is recommended. I stop losing weight. Make sure and drink water. I start losing. So...I drink water. A hint: I am one of those people who for the most part never drank water. I drank lots of Diet Coke - I was addicted to Diet Coke. I drank coffee, tea or other diet sodas. I did not drink water. Honestly, I really do not like the taste of tap water. I have found several different bottled water brands that I do like. In visiting with others like myself, you will need to find something you like for it to work. Which brings me to the next point.

  • Michael says.. Do not eat things you do not like. I have expanded that it Do not eat things others tell you to eat because they are "good" for you, if you do not like them. Part of the reason - if you lose weight eating things that you do like.

    . You are setting yourself up to gain the weight back. No one eats things they do not like for the rest of their life. And I have new lifestyle of eating, not just a diet. And why use calories for things you do not like, save it for things you do.
  • Try new things,
      you might find you like it
    I have discovered that I like spagetti squash, artichokes, lots of different kinds of fish and salad with vinegar and splenda for a salad dressing.

  • Eating 6 small meals a days really makes a huge difference in both losing and maintaining weight loss.
